ravine winds

ravine winds
Strong winds that occur in or near ravines or narrow valleys. When there is a pressure difference between two sides of a mountain barrier, air is impelled through the ravine by the pressure gradient. Such winds may be strong not only in the ravines or valleys but also after leaving the mouth into open country. See valley winds.
